Here is the plot description for “50/50”:

Inspired by personal experiences, “50/50” is an original story about friendship, love, survival and finding humor in unlikely places. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as best friends whose lives are changed by a cancer diagnosis. Rogen also serves as producer along with Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin. Jonathan Levine directs from a script by Will Reiser.

“We worked with Will on ‘Da Ali G Show’ and it was shortly after that we learned he was sick.” Rogen recalls. “As shocking, sad, confusing and generally screwed up as it was, we couldn’t ignore that – because we were so ill-equipped to deal with the situation – funny things kept happening. Will got better, and when he did, we thought the best way to pull something good out of the situation was to get him to write a screenplay.”

Rogen added: “Ideally we wanted to make a film that would be as funny, sad and hopefully as honest as the experience we went through. As soon as the script was completed, it quickly became a passion project for all of us. It helped us come to terms with Will’s struggle as well as our own experiences.”

“50/50” is the story of a guy’s transformative and, yes, sometimes funny journey to health. “50/50” draws its emotional core from Will Reiser’s own experience with cancer. The film reminds us that friendship and love – no matter what bizarre turns they take – are the greatest healers.

Cancer

A lot of my friends recently have friends or family members get diagnosed with cancer. So it’s been effected my life a lot recently. But specifically my brother’s wife was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. She’s only 32. I’m only 23 at the moment but it really made me think how it doesn’t matter how young you are cancer can hit anyone. It’s sad to think like that but it’s a real reality for so many of us. I hope one day cancer isn’t a problem because right now it’s claiming too many victims.

My great grandma passed away

My great grandma passed away with cancer several years ago and it didn’t effect me so much personally because I was so young but seeing how it effected my grandma (her daughter) opened my eyes up to the bond between a mother and child and how strong it is. She meant a lot to my grandma and she remembers her everyday the good and bad times so love on your parents while their still here.

Cancer

I took a theatre class at a tech center in my town and one of the teachers there, who helps with the costumes, has had cancer for a while now and she might not make it much longer. She’s an incredibly sweet and smart woman. I think the cancer has humbled her and given her exceptional wisdom on so many matters. She recently got an infection but she can’t take anti-biotics while on chemotherapy so she’s been given a few months which is extremely sad and distressing, but even in the face of this horrible news she has remained strong, wise, and even humorous, which I think is a great thing and must be one of the only ways to deal with such a situation. From what I’ve seen I think this is reflected in this movie quite well.

family

Cancer has touched my life in so many ways, through the lives of people that I care about and love. My maternal side of the family, continually have an issue with cancer solely in their right breast. It has alraedy affected over 6 family members.

My best friend of several years lost her mom to cancer and prior to her loss, I never knew how significant or how debiliating it could be for an individual and an entire family.

My favorite cousin also loss his father to cancer and it really hurt my heart to sense the pain that he felt in watching his father also die.

While we all can lose someone along our lifetime, it seems that Cancer is not only crippling and debilating but such a serious form of death. It is as random as it is specific and such a sound reminder of the importance of life and how precious it truly is. Thanks.

Cancer

When I was in grammar school, I had a best friend that I’ve grown up with my whole life. We were both 12 at the time and at 7th grade she was diagnosed with a type of brain cancer. I’ve seen her go through with the chemo and the surgical resection she had to remove the tumors in her brain. Not only that, she herself was facing her parents getting divorce. She was in the hospital for about 3 years until she was diagnosed cancer free. It was very hard for her to come out of the hospital and having to start her life all over again with trying to go back and school and having to put up with living with one parent at a time. Eventually, she completely stop going to the doctor and focused on school. Now she received her GED about two years ago and has been working and even started her family of her own with a beautiful two year old son. After seeing everything that she had gone through made me realize that life is short and as much as you can try to live it up as much as possible. Definitely all the times of trying to keep her head up and encouraging her not to give up paid off at the end. I rarely see her now since she’s always busy with taking care of her son and job, but it’s always great to see how much she has accomplished.

Cancer is a “family” disease. When one family member has cancer, the whole family is in pain.
