Here is the plot description for “50/50”:

Inspired by personal experiences, “50/50” is an original story about friendship, love, survival and finding humor in unlikely places. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as best friends whose lives are changed by a cancer diagnosis. Rogen also serves as producer along with Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin. Jonathan Levine directs from a script by Will Reiser.

“We worked with Will on ‘Da Ali G Show’ and it was shortly after that we learned he was sick.” Rogen recalls. “As shocking, sad, confusing and generally screwed up as it was, we couldn’t ignore that – because we were so ill-equipped to deal with the situation – funny things kept happening. Will got better, and when he did, we thought the best way to pull something good out of the situation was to get him to write a screenplay.”

Rogen added: “Ideally we wanted to make a film that would be as funny, sad and hopefully as honest as the experience we went through. As soon as the script was completed, it quickly became a passion project for all of us. It helped us come to terms with Will’s struggle as well as our own experiences.”

“50/50” is the story of a guy’s transformative and, yes, sometimes funny journey to health. “50/50” draws its emotional core from Will Reiser’s own experience with cancer. The film reminds us that friendship and love – no matter what bizarre turns they take – are the greatest healers.

Friend of Breast Cancer Survivors

Having at least three friends diagnosed with and surviving breast cancer has a humblingeffect on me. These courageous woman live with disnity, zest, friendliness, open heartedness, and much more positive qualities. They impat me because I realize that I must “celebrate each Day” and take on some of their positive chararcteristics.

Family History 50/50

Many on my paternal side are afflicted by cancer, but none (so far) on my maternal side of the family. Does that count as family history of 50/50?

My cousin was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago. It was difficult to see him in the hospital looking so unlike himself. We almost lost him but he pulled through and is now in remission. He is excited about seeing this movie and so am I.

50/50

Cancer has affected me dearly in my short lifetime. My mother was diagnosed with cancer but luckily was able to fight through it and survive. After things of this nature happen in your life you are motivated to live life to the fullest, knowing that every day is not promised to no one. Cancer hasn’t hasnt affected me but it has definitely affected my life in more ways than one.

Cancer

My mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2004. She thought she wasnt gonna make it. But we encouraged her everyday that there was hope and that she would make it through and after all the Kemo treatments and tests and surgeries she was cancer in the spring of 2006. There were some real touch and go moments there but the main thing is that we kept believing that God would bless her with a renewed lease on life and He did.
