Film Review: ‘The Mummy’ is a Marvel of a Muddled Mess
Submitted by PatrickMcD on June 9, 2017 - 6:42amCHICAGO – Universal Studio’s “Dark Universe,” which is centered around its stable of classic movie monsters, isn’t a bad idea. But in the darkly inauspicious debut feature called “The Mummy,” everything unravels. This is a mixed, muddled, marvel of a mess that contains an assembly of special effects, but precious little life.
Film Review: Supremely Silly ‘Mortdecai’ is a Pleasant Surprise
Submitted by PatrickMcD on January 23, 2015 - 10:56pmCHICAGO – I have to say while watching Johnny Depp in “Mortdecai,” I found myself amused. I rarely elicited anything more than a slight chuckle, but its indomitable spirit of silliness made it a not entirely unpleasant evening out.

Blu-ray Review: Strong Pace, Great Cast Give Speed to Mediocre ‘Premium Rush’
Submitted by BrianTT on January 7, 2013 - 6:00pmCHICAGO – I heard from a lot of people during the recent year-end season of top ten lists, critics awards, and Oscar predictions that one of the films I needed to catch up with that was underrated was David Koepp’s “Premium Rush,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. The movie has hardcore fans. I don’t quite get the most adamant of those fans. It’s an OK flick, a decent rental with strong pacing, impressive stunts, and a great cast, who elevate a pretty mediocre script.
Film Review: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Peddles Clichés in ‘Premium Rush’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on August 23, 2012 - 7:50amCHICAGO – We’re looking for cowboy heroes in America, and a new film contends that the urban bike messenger could represent that long lost persona. This unlikely theory is the basis for “Premium Rush,” and it features Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Aasif Mandvi and Dania Ramirez.

Blu-Ray Review: Romantic Comedy Lives in ‘Ghost Town’
Submitted by BrianTT on December 29, 2008 - 8:07pmCHICAGO – With three of the most charming and enjoyable leads in any romantic comedy released in 2008, David Koepp’s “Ghost Town” should find a steady and satisfied audience on Blu-Ray this winter.
