Film Review: Visual Beauty Can't Cover Up Cultural Vagueness in 'Abominable'

abominable1

CHICAGO – The changing view on yetis goes to show just how different my childhood was from kids growing up today. Back in my day, yeti’s were elusive creatures meant to be feared, much like Big Foot or Loch Ness. Films like “Smallfoot” and “Abominable” are paving the way towards acceptance were we ever to encounter a yeti, but the latter is more of a step back than forwards.

Film Review: Uninspired ‘R.I.P.D.’ is a Reminder of Better Movies

R.I.P.D.

CHICAGO – Did everyone see “Men in Black”? Or the film’s two sequels? They you saw “R.I.P.D.,” which unfortunately for the production team has “rip” in the title, because the film is a lazy rewrite and rip-off of “MiB.” Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds are the protectors assigned in this one.

CHICAGO – There is an underlying smokiness to the ultra-violent “Safe” that is worth exploring. Action star Jason Statham puts it all together.
