TV Review: Stellar Start to Sixth Season of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’
Submitted by BrianTT on September 16, 2010 - 1:01pmCHICAGO – How funny are the first four episodes of the new season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” starting tonight on FX? Even though I’m knee-deep in screeners for new and returning shows, I watched all four episodes twice.
TV Review: Football, Relationships Drive Consistently Clever ‘The League’
Submitted by BrianTT on September 16, 2010 - 9:50amCHICAGO – The second-season premiere of FX’s comedy hit “The League” features a bunch of pumped-up guys going to Las Vegas but this is not your typical “Hangover”-esque tale of debauchery.
TV Review: Donal Logue Leads Pack of Misfits in Charming ‘Terriers’
Submitted by BrianTT on September 8, 2010 - 7:39amCHICAGO – FX continues their streak of quality programming that includes “Rescue Me,” “Justified,” “Archer,” “The League,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” with the very-promising-and-entertaining “Terriers,” a new riff on the private investigator drama with a spectacular pack of TV veterans both in-front and behind-the-camera.
TV Review: ‘Rescue Me’ Struggles to Keep Creative Fires Burning
Submitted by BrianTT on June 29, 2010 - 10:43amCHICAGO – When the first four episodes of the new season of “Rescue Me” allows the actors to merely live in the shoes of these characters they know so well after five seasons on the air then the show finds some of the magic that it produced more consistently in its superior early seasons. Sadly, the writers know they can’t just shoot a drama about guys hanging out in a firehouse and the scripted drama often doesn’t click.
TV Review: Riveting, Spectacular ‘Justified’ With Timothy Olyphant
Submitted by BrianTT on March 16, 2010 - 11:21amCHICAGO – In the hundreds of shows that I’ve reviewed in my decade covering television, I’ve rarely been as instantly blown away as I was by the premiere of “Justified,” a riveting, perfectly paced, expertly acted piece of drama that simply must be seen. The next two episodes are a slight step down but that doesn’t change the fact that this is the best new drama of 2009-2010.
TV Review: Hilarious ‘Archer’ Continues Hot Streak for FX
Submitted by BrianTT on January 14, 2010 - 12:06pmCHICAGO – Perhaps the highest compliment I can pay FX’s new often-brilliant animated series “Archer” is that, even with several new shows on my plate to watch, I actually went back and viewed a few episodes more than once. Like a lot of great animation - the best of “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “South Park,” “Venture Bros.” - “Archer” is immensely rewatchable. A future cult hit premieres tonight.
DVD Review: Spectacular ‘The Shield: The Complete Series Collection’
Submitted by BrianTT on November 13, 2009 - 2:32pmCHICAGO – All seven season of the Emmy-winning, groundbreaking “The Shield,” easily one of the best programs of the ’00s, have been collected into one absolutely gorgeous set for “The Shield: The Complete Series Collection”. This time of year usually produces several complete series sets to essentially re-sell already available programs to holiday shoppers. This is one of the best.
TV Review: ‘The League’ on FX Has Potential to Be a Winner
Submitted by BrianTT on October 29, 2009 - 12:01pmCHICAGO – FX may have finally found a partner for the great “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” in the just-as-raunchy “The League,” a show that’s basically about how guys like to give each other sh*t.
TV on Blu-Ray Round Up: ‘Lie to Me,’ ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ ‘Life After People’

Submitted by BrianTT on June 11, 2009 - 10:27amCHICAGO – There was no better show on television in 2008 than FX’s “The Shield” and the seventh and final season is now available on DVD.
