CHICAGO – Society, or at least certain elements of society, are always looking for scapegoats to hide the sins of themselves and authority. In the so-called “great America” of the 1950s, the scapegoat target was comic books … specifically through a sociological study called “The Seduction of the Innocent.” City Lit Theater Company, in part two of a trilogy on comic culture by Mark Pracht, presents “The Innocence of Seduction … now through October 8th, 2023. CCFF23: 'Theater Camp' is Chicago Critics Film Fest Closing Night

CHICAGO – All great things must come to an end, as the 2023 Chicago Critics Film Festival (CCFF) Closing Night is on Thursday, May 11th, with the anticipated “Theater Camp” at the Music Box Theatre. The Fest spanned six days, click CCFF FINALE for closing night ticket info.
“Theater Camp” … directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman … highlights the time honored clash between art and commerce, as the story follows an eccentric staff running a scrappy theater camp in upstate New York. After its indomitable and beloved founder falls into a coma, they must band together with her clueless “crypto-bro” son to keep the thespian paradise afloat.

The 10th Chicago Critics Film Festival is the the only such festival in the country curated by film critics, and highlights the 2023 films from the early year festivals like Sundance and SXSW. Also on May 11th at 5pm is “Starring Jerry as Himself” (dir. Law Chen). Throughout the rest of the year the CCFF hosts several “talk back” film events and moderates Q&As at various Chicagoland film venues.
