CHICAGO – America’s #1 TV network showed a sign of their force today by renewing EIGHTEEN programs from their reliable hits to shows that many considered to be on the bubble. The renewals include four comedies, nine dramas, three reality series, and two newsmagazines and include programs that currently air on every night of the week. CBS really is in charge.

Technically, CBS had already renewed “How I Met Your Mother” and “The Big Bang Theory” but they’re included in the total with just-renewed comedy hits “2 Broke Girls” and “Mike & Molly.” It leaves “Two and a Half Men,” “Rules of Engagement,” and “Rob” as the only uncertain CBS comedies. Negotiations are underway with “Two” as rumors vary about the future of the show both in terms of cast and how much longer it will be on the air. “Rules” is more likely as a mid-season replacement and “Rob” is likely to be canceled.

Nine dramas were renewed including the two MEGA-hits “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Only one of the network’s other hit franchise entries, the original “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” is guaranteed another season. And only one new show — “Person of Interest” — will certainly be back. Other renewals include “Hawaii Five-0,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Mentalist,” “Blue Bloods,” and “The Good Wife.”

This leaves fans of “CSI: NY,” “CSI: Miami,” “Unforgettable,” and “A Gifted Man” in limbo. It is definitely possible that all four will be canceled. Before today, I was predicting that all but “Miami” almost certainly would. And the David Caruso show was on the bubble.

The five other renewals contain no surprises — “The Amazing Race,” “Undercover Boss,” “Survivor,” “60 Minutes,” and “48 Hours Mystery” will all return.
