“FlashForward: The Complete Series”
DVD Rating: 2.5/5.0 |
The 2009-2010 television season produced an incredible number of new shows that were deemed worthy of renewal for a second season. Sadly, not everyone’s favorite program made the cut. In the weeks preceding ABC’s announcement of their 2010-2011 schedule, the thinking was that the network could renew one of their two on-the-bubble sci-fi programs and couldn’t afford to take a risk on bringing both of them back. The common prediction was that “V” would get the axe and “FlashForward” would be given a chance to reboot in a sophomore frame. As fans of both programs know, the opposite came true and “FlashForward” joined the ranks of other “Lost”-inspired programs from “Threshold” to “Invasion” to “The Nine” that didn’t make it past season one.

Now, fans can own the entirety of “FlashForward” in one five-disc set. Those of you who haven’t seen the show and are intrigued by the opportunity to watch what is now basically one 22-episode mini-series might be curious enough to check it out but “FlashForward” failed to find a “Lost”-sized argument for a reason. The premiere was stellar and set-up dozens of interesting plot threads spawned by the day that the entire world saw a glimpse of their future. Sadly, the serious problems with the program began to surface almost immediately. First and foremost, Joseph Fiennes never made a charismatic-enough lead to carry a show this intense, but the failure of the show falls not on his shoulders but on a writing staff that never developed characters worth caring about. What almost all of the “Lost”-inspired shows have forgotten is that the story of Oceanic Flight 815 worked because we loved the people on that island as much as the mystery that surrounded them.
The Complete Series set of “FlashForward” is presented in widescreen with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio and a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound track.
