What to Watch: Sept. 3-9, 2013
Submitted by BrianTT on September 6, 2013 - 10:34amCHICAGO – The biggest column yet on What to Watch on DVD, Blu-ray, Netflix, Amazon, On Demand, and more is another seemingly random hodge-podge of offerings that you can use to guide your way through the new releases shelf at Best Buy, the On Demand section on Vudu, the store on iTunes, and maybe even Netflix and Hulu. Pick your favorites. This is the way we’d rank these new releases if you have a free night this weekend or money to burn next week.
TV News: The CW Moves Several Hits, Launches Three New Shows
Submitted by BrianTT on May 16, 2013 - 9:07amCHICAGO – The CW is shaking things up this Fall, perhaps recognizing that their audience doesn’t care as much what night of the week their shows are on as they’re getting increasingly likely to DVR, download, or stream them. 40% of the net’s line-up is switching nights, moving around three new shows in the mid-section of the week.
DVD Review: Latest Season of CW Hits ‘Supernatural,’ ‘The Vampire Diaries’
Submitted by BrianTT on September 17, 2012 - 5:47pmCHICAGO – As The CW continues to struggle to find a new hit (which could very easily change with the upcoming premiere of the very-promising “Arrow”), Warner Bros. releases two of the networks most reliable programs, arguably the two biggest success stories for the network right now in “Supernatural: The Complete Seventh Season” and “The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Third Season.”

Submitted by BrianTT on May 17, 2012 - 8:26amCHICAGO – There have been a number of surprising announcements of new nights for hit shows this week (“Two and a Half Men,” “Glee,” “Revenge,” “Community”) and The CW closed out the trend this morning by announcing their Fall schedule and revealing that “America’s Next Top Model” and “Supernatural” will swap evenings.
TV News: The CW Renews ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ ‘Supernatural,’ ‘90210’
Submitted by BrianTT on May 3, 2012 - 2:41pmCHICAGO – In advance of their full Fall schedule, The CW has announced that they have renewed three of their only hits — “The Vampire Diaries,” “Supernatural,” and “90210.” The net’s biggest show, “Vampire,” will return for its fourth season while solid hit “Supernatural” will mark its eighth. “90210,” believe it or not, will air a fifth season from 2012-13. The network is in desperate need of a new hit but these three veterans do perform well enough to justify the early renewal.

TV Review: The CW’s ‘The Secret Circle’ Fails to Cast a Spell
Submitted by BrianTT on September 15, 2011 - 10:43amCHICAGO – Audiences are too smart for “The Secret Circle.” Sure, they bought in when The CW presented “The Vampire Diaries” on the heels of the “Twilight” phenomenon but that is a fast-paced, sexy, and sometimes-clever show. You can hook them by piggybacking on a trend, but then you better have some meat on the hook. There’s no meat in “The Secret Circle,” the struggling network’s least-likely shot at a new hit.
Blu-Ray Review: CW Hits ‘Nikita,’ ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Now Available
Submitted by BrianTT on September 8, 2011 - 11:12amCHICAGO – The CW is an interesting story for a TV critic. If you just look at their numbers, they shouldn’t even be able to pay the electricity bill to transmit a signal. And yet numbers no longer tell the entire tale. The CW attracts loyal viewers through new delivery systems including On Demand, iTunes, and DVD/Blu-ray. Two of their most notable shows, “Nikita” and “The Vampire Diaries,” hit the market last week. Catch up before they return for new seasons.

With stars like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rachel Bilson, and Mario Lopez making their way to the struggling network, perhaps this is the year that The CW turns it around.
