Rating: 3.5/5.0 |
CHICAGO – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review, a review of the rebooted film franchise “Mortal Kombat,” a new action series based on the popular video game. In theaters and on HBO Max beginning April 23rd, 2021.
Lewis Tan is Cole Young, a mixed marital arts fighter with a golly-gee-whiz family, who encounters a man named Jax (Mehcad Brooks) who is a recruiter for a heroic group of ninja fighters named Shirai Ryu, born with a dragon tattoo … which Cole possesses. They are challenged by the Lin Kuel assassins of The Outworld – introduced by a Mr. Freeze type called Sub Zero – looking for another “mortal kombat” tournament, to defeat Shirai Ryu and the Earthstream (the version of our world). Cole has to go through training with a motley crew, including the volatile Kano (Josh Lawson), to find his super power to defeat their enemies.
