CHICAGO – The horror/comedy “Zombieland” is one of the few 2009 films to honestly deserve the overused phrase “thrill ride.” From the opening shots to the best post-credits tag in years, “Zombieland” attempts nothing but pure fun and completely delivers.

CHICAGO – Magnolia sent over the new trailer for the epic and remarkable “Red Cliff” from the legendary director John Woo. Already a massive hit in China, “Red Cliff” opens in theatres next month and the preview is already building stateside buzz. Check it out.

CHICAGO – Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg make an amazing comedy/horror duo in “Zombieland,” which is one of the most out-of-left-field surprises of 2009. It’s a great film that has been perfectly captured in the production notes in four words: “‘Midnight Run’ with zombies.”

CHICAGO – All of you DVD and Blu-Ray buyers who lament the neverending flow of slapstick comedies that basically all feel and look the same owe it to director Jody Hill and star Seth Rogen to rent or buy “Observe and Report,” one of the best comedies of the year to date and one of the most daring movies of the last several years.

CHICAGO – Kelsey Grammer is such a TV veteran, a major part of two of the best sitcoms in the history of the medium in “Cheers” and “Frasier,” that it makes his decision to do something as generic, predictable, and unfunny as ABC’s “Hank” all the more disappointing. You would think he knew better by now.

CHICAGO – The History Channel has an unfortunate history of sensationalizing history for the sake of entertainment. Consider the promo for the network’s recent special on the Tate/LaBianca murders. It’s not enough that the program recounts the tragic events leading up to the Manson Family’s horrific crimes.

CHICAGO – The Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana have a popularity that’s nearly unmatched in the world of pop culture. They’re not just superstars, they are undeniable phenomena. Just go to the mall this weekend and it won’t be hard to see what I mean. While you’re there, pick up the latest Disney DVDs, “Jonas Rockin’ The House” and “Wizards On Deck With Hannah Montana”.
