CHICAGO – Day Six of the 57th Chicago International Film Festival (CIFF) morphs from Monday to “Dune”Day. The exquisite film adaptation of the iconic novel is nothing short of miraculous, especially if you love the source (click DUNE [22] for details).
The 57th Chicago International Film Festival DAY SIX features screenings in theater, at the drive-in and virtual/online. Click here [23] for a complete how-to guide on navigating the 57th CIFF. And click DAY SIX, DUNEDAY [24] for the complete line up of films.
EVENT OF THE DAY: In a bold project, the fest partner Ogilvy brings the 57th Chicago International Film Festival creative campaign to life on DUNEDAY, turning audience members lining up for the Festival screening of “Dune” into characters in an unseen screenwriter’s script. This will occur outside the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue, Chicago,
APPEARANCES OF THE DAY: 3:00pm: “Shankar’s Fairies” … Special Guests Scheduled to Attend. 6:00pm: “Love, Charlie: The Rise and Fall of Chef Charlie Trotter” … Special Guests Scheduled to Attend. 8:30pm: “Shorts 8: Discursive Proclivities (Experimental)" … Special Guests (the Filmmakers) Scheduled to Attend.
FILM OF THE DAY: “Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy” – This film is special, and would be best experienced in a concentration big screen setting. Three separate “romance” stories, by writer/director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, are thematically similar – couples connecting – but explore different emotions. The English titles for the three segments begin with the first, “Magic (Or Something Less Assuring),” which was starkly honest. “Door Wide Open” (a hilarious play on Eyes Wide Shut if that was the intention) was the most poignant. “Once Again” was just plain delightful, but twinged with more regretful passages. Definitely the best film I’ve seen through the festival, catch it if you get a chance. (click WHEEL [25] for details).
