CHICAGO – The Music Box Theatre of Chicago remains the premiere destination for cutting edge art and independent films. During the pandemic stay-at-home order, they began offering screenings to download last week (”Bacurau” [20], which continues), and this week expands their selection with “The Whistlers” and “Saint Frances.”!—break—>
Music Box Theatre Presents THE WHISTLERS
The Music Box Theatre will get a percentage of the proceeds from any download in this partnership with Magnolia Pictures.
Scheduled: Now until the theater re-opens or changes the film.
Description: Premiering at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, “The Whistlers” is from Romania, directed by Corneliu Porumboiu. Not everything is as it seems for Cristi (Vlad Ivanov), a police inspector in Bucharest who plays both sides of the law. Embarking with the beautiful Gilda (Catrinel Marlon) on a high-stakes heist, both will have to navigate the twists and turns of corruption, treachery and deception. A trip to the Canary Islands to learn a secret whistling language might just be what they need to pull it off.

Music Box Theatre Presents SAINT FRANCES
The Music Box Theatre will get a percentage of the proceeds from any download in this partnership with VHX.TV.
Scheduled: Now until the theater re-opens or changes the film.
Description: “Saint Frances” is the deeply authentic and emotional story of Bridget (Kelly O’Sullivan), a 34-year-old woman who is feeling her situation, without a relationship or adult-style career. In the midst of an unwanted pregnancy situation, she answers the call for a nanny position, and meets six-year-old Frances (Ramona Edith Smith), an unfiltered truth teller in a repressed world.
As they interact, a loosening of Bridget’s worries begin to occur, as well as a few life lessons for Frances. Lead actress O’Sullivan also wrote the script, which was filmed locally in Chicagoland, and director Alex Thompson is a DePaul University film school alumni. “Saint Frances” was awarded the “Breakthrough Voice” Award and the Audience Award recognition for narrative film at last year’s SXSW Film Festival, as well as the Audience Favorite Award at the 2019 Chicago Critics Film Festival.
