CHICAGO – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson on WBGR-FM (Monroe, Wisconsin) on July 9th, 2020, reviewing the instant cult classic from Netflix, “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”
“Eurovision” was released on June 26, 2020, on Netflix (after an intended May release was scrapped due to the pandemic). It features Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as a musical duo from Iceland called Fire Saga. They desire to pass the audition and be part of the Eurovision Song Contest, a real annual event (canceled this year) that introduced ABBA and Celine Dion, among others. Fire Saga gets their shot, and the Will Ferrell style hilarity and heart filled songs follow. Also featuring Dan Stevens (“Beauty and the Beast”) as their Russian rival and the invincible Pierce Brosnan as the Ferrell character’s strict Dad.
Amazingly, “Eurovision” has given Will Ferrell another show business honor. For the first time, he appears on the music charts, as he co-sings on the single “Husavik,” which appeared on the digital list this week. We will await the word on “Ja Ja Ding Dong.”
