CHICAGO – Theatrical satires of the Star Wars Universe are like the number of TV series the universe has wrought … too many to figure out if anything is worthwhile. But “Trade Federation” (subtitled “Or Let’s Explore Globalization Through the Star Wars Prequels”), presented by Otherworld Theatre in Wrigleyville Chicago, gets it right on.

CHICAGO – It was inevitable that the iconic cartoon character Scooby Doo would get the modern animation treatment, and the new film “Scoob!” opens May 15th, 2020 on VOD platforms. Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, reviewed the film during the Eddie Volkman Show (Star 96.7 FM in Joliet, Illinois).
“Scooby Doo, Where Are You?” was a Saturday Morning Cartoon in the era of three network television, and premiered in 1969. Since then, it’s become a major franchise for the Hanna Barbera animation house, and has had more variations than the Marvel universe. “Scoobs!” Is a revival of the main characters, the dog named Scooby Doo (voice of Frank Welker) and his gang of mystery solvers … including Fred (Zac Efron), Daphne (Amanda Seyfried), Velma (Gina Rodriguez) and Scoob’s best friend Shaggy (Will Forte).

“Scoobs!” Is a space adventure, most likely to create a setting for its modern animation, and contains many mind blowing scenes. Also this story is an attempt to establish other Hanna Barbera characters that appear in the film, with Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg), Dynomutt (Ken Jeong), Captain Caveman (Tracy Morgan), Muttley (Billy West) and Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs) making appearances.
Eddie Volkman is an iconic Chicagoland radio voice, influencing the area for over 30 years. He is the son of TV weatherman Harry Volkman, who himself influenced the art of meteorology on early Chicago television. After on-air stints in Austin and San Francisco in the 1980s, Eddie came back to Chicago on B96 FM, where he was paired with Joe “JoBo” Bohannon. Eddie and JoBo ruled the airwaves for 22 years, and kept the partnership alive afterward through TV commercials and other appearances.
Eddie’s love of radio has kept him on the air as a solo performer, and he currently works the afternoon shift (2pm-7pm) on Star 96.7. Patrick McDonald first appeared on Eddie’s podcast four years ago, and has contributed film reviews to the show ever since, and currently appears every Friday at 4:35pm.
