CHICAGO – Director Adam McKay has come to the meatiest part of his long and successful career. He began with comedy in TV and film, and was first known for hilarious movies like “Anchorman,” “Talledega Nights,” and “Step Brothers.” Recently, he has moved into more complex filmmaking, like the highly touted (and Oscar nominated for Best Picture and Director) “The Big Short” in 2015, and this year’s “Vice,” nominated again for Best Picture, Best Director and for his Best Original Screenplay.
CHICAGO – Chicago’s Kartemquin Films continues their winning streak, as director Bing Liu’s “Minding the Gap” scores an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary. The 91st Academy Awards will take place on February 24th, 2019.
CHICAGO – “Vice” is an occasionally very funny attempt to demystify the life and legacy of former Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney. Using some of the same gimmicks and narrative trickery he employed to great effect in “The Big Short,” writer/director Adam McKay goes deep into the weeds to try to explain how Cheney made it to the second highest office in the land.
CHICAGO – Colin Egglesfield has been a popular character actor for years, best known for portraying Josh Madden on the daytime drama “All My Children” for four seasons. Egglesfield was in Chicago last year, promoting his new “Shout Out!” clothing line, which he uses as a vehicle to promote “stay in school” initiatives like Project Grad, that has programs throughout the United States.
CHICAGO – The classic rock song “Stuck in the Middle with You” was never the same again after Michael Madsen danced to it in a memorable sequence from Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs.” Madsen is at the Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge, Illinois, on Sunday, Sept. 23rd to introduce that film and meet fans.
