Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on January 20, 2013 - 10:36pmCHICAGO – Rife with corruption and injustice, the setting for “Broken City” could have been picked from a litter of U.S. metropolitans. Said star Mark Wahlberg in a recent red-carpet interview with HollywoodChicago.com, it’s not Chicago.

Blu-ray Review: Smash Hit ‘Ted’ Gets Release Stuffed with Extras
Submitted by BrianTT on December 28, 2012 - 12:56pmCHICAGO – Even the most confident people behind the scenes of Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” must have been blown away by its success, arguably the most surprising hit of 2012. $100 million domestic would have made the movie a success but it made double that and half-a-billion worldwide, ranking as the 7th highest grossing R-rated film of all time domestically. It’s a phenomenon and Universal treats it thusly with a nicely-packed Blu-ray release with deleted scenes, featurettes, and more.

Film Review: Fearless Comedy of Seth MacFarlane’s Original ‘Ted’
Submitted by BrianTT on June 28, 2012 - 5:41pmCHICAGO – “Ted” is one of the most inventive and surprising films of the year. It has a sense of humor that will be very familiar to fans of writer/director Seth MacFarlane’s “Family Guy” but is refreshingly unique in a film genre that is too often stale. In fact, most of the Summer 2012 movies have been incredibly predictable and there’s NOTHING predictable about “Ted.”
Blu-ray Review: Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster in Generic ‘Contraband’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 27, 2012 - 2:01pmCHICAGO – “Contraband” has some action movie elements that work but too much of it is overly familiar, especially the parts played by leads Mark Wahlberg and supporting actors J.K. Simmons, Ben Foster & Giovanni Ribisi, strong actors who resort to their basic tricks here and just don’t deliver. I like all four guys but this is lazy work in a relatively lazy film overall. All in all, “Contraband” is a mediocre movie that moves quickly enough to barely fit the bill on a rainy Saturday night but isn’t the best work by anyone involved.

Trailer Tracking: ‘Rise of the Guardians,’ ‘Looper,’ ‘Ted’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 18, 2012 - 12:05pmCHICAGO – Now that most of the big summer movies have already had their trailers hit the internet, studios are realizing that we’ve probably decided whether or not we’re seeing “Avengers” (yes) or “Battleship” (no), and, as such, they’re now releasing previews for some of their more interesting films coming out later this year.
Film Review: Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Contraband’ Steals Half Justice From Icelandic Conquest
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on January 14, 2012 - 3:46pmCHICAGO – One way to craft an unforgettable, undeniably adept film is to make a new one. Hollywood views that as financially risky, though, and it often doesn’t happen without being based on a book with a built-in audience or a film that’s already an international box-office success.
