Film Review: Dax Shepard, Kristin Bell Stall Out in ‘Hit & Run’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 22, 2012 - 7:05pmCHICAGO – Pardon the clichés for a minute. I can’t help myself. Dax Shepard’s “Hit & Run” doesn’t just lose the drag race. It doesn’t just blow a flat tire or run out of gas. Think of all the Shalit-esque puns you can about a disastrous experience in a car and apply them to this lurching mess of five or six movies that aspires to be Tarantino-esque but completely misses its mark.

TV Review: ABC’s ‘GCB’ Wants to Be Your Sunday Guilty Pleasure
Submitted by BrianTT on March 4, 2012 - 2:34pmCHICAGO – ABC attempts to pass the sequined, bedazzled baton from one glittery soap comedy to another as “GCB” (based on the book “Good Christian Bitches” by Kim Gatlin) premieres tonight as a clear successor to the soon-to-end “Desperate Housewives.”
Blu-Ray Review: Tepid ‘You Again’ Wastes Talented Cast
Submitted by BrianTT on February 8, 2011 - 3:27pmCHICAGO – It may be a sign of my age, but I get more joy out of seeing Sigourney Weaver and Jamie Lee Curtis acting again in the mediocre “You Again” than anything to do with the generation below them in the film (Kristin Bell, Odette Yustman), recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. The sitcomish movie in which they’re featured is well below their talents but just seeing Curtis and Weaver back in the spotlight provides enough joy to keep the proceedings from sliding too far down the scale.

DVD Review: ‘Pushing Daisies: The Complete Second Season’ is Romantic, Beautiful TV
Submitted by BrianTT on July 30, 2009 - 10:45amCHICAGO – The minute I saw “Pushing Daisies,” one of the very first notes I took while watching the pilot was “this is never going to last”. It was great, but it was also too quirky, strange, romantic, and hard to put into a definable box, making it unlikely to find an audience. Now that the second-and-final season of “Pushing Daisies” is on DVD, we can look back and see the beauty of the brief time we had with this great show and wonder what might have been.
TV Review: Jason Bateman, Will Arnett Reunite For ‘Sit Down, Shut Up’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 16, 2009 - 3:07pm![]() Television Rating: 2.0/5.0 |
CHICAGO – Will another animated show on Sunday nights be a perfect fit for “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” fans or will those beloved shows have set too high a bar to jump over for another cartoon to compete? People love their Homer and Stewie. Will they fall for the teachers of Knob Haven on “Sit Down, Shut Up”? Despite the incredible talent involved, I highly doubt it.
