Film Review: Luminous Story of Disconnection in Organic ‘Tracks’
Submitted by NickHC on September 26, 2014 - 12:26pmCHICAGO – “Do you ever wonder if the things that are meant to connect us … actually disconnect us?” This cheesy hypothesis as found in many millennial dramas has only caused the film world go to in circles about the quandary of handheld screens and social media. With its cool air, John Curran’s low-key adventure “Tracks” takes a line straight through that argument, providing a story of disconnection from distraction as set in a world when Apple products were only gadgets on re-runs of “Star Trek.”
Blu-Ray Review: Great Cast Cannot Save Deeply Flawed ‘Stone’
Submitted by BrianTT on January 24, 2011 - 7:56pmCHICAGO – There was a time when the union of two actors as accomplished as Robert De Niro and Edward Norton would make movie news headlines. Blu-Ray Review: Casey Affleck Stars in Disturbing ‘The Killer Inside Me’
Submitted by BrianTT on October 5, 2010 - 10:43amCHICAGO – Michael Winterbottom’s “The Killer Inside Me” provoked such a strong response after its Sundance Film Festival premiere that the auteur behind “A Mighty Heart,” “9 Songs,” and “24 Hour Party People” was shunned by a crowd that typically embraces challenging films. What turned them? Check out Winterbottom’s daring film with Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, and Simon Baker, now on Blu-ray and DVD.
