Submitted by PatrickMcD on January 18, 2017 - 7:05pmCHICAGO – A four year old walks into a room with a great idea for a movie, and unfortunately his father is president of a “motion picture group.” Millions of dollars and four years later, this child’s idea became “Monster Trucks,” one of the strangest movies ever conceived.

Film Review: ‘Don’t Breathe’ is a Terrifying Sensory Experience
Submitted by PatrickMcD on August 27, 2016 - 6:21pmCHICAGO – The horror genre can be a complex creature. The great films can show you the difference between ‘horror’ and ‘terror’. Some horror is all shock and no substance, while terror can be all fear, but no shock. The difference between them is so nuanced that only a skilled director, like Fede Alvarez, can show you the difference in his latest film, “Don’t Breathe.”
Interview: Actor Stephen Lang, Director Fede Alvarez Advise You to ‘Don’t Breathe’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on August 26, 2016 - 4:35amCHICAGO – The horror genre in film is always looking for a shot in the old fear factor, and the new release “Don’t Breathe” delivers that injection (heh-heh). The second film by director Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead”) features character actor favorite Stephen Lang – he prefers “Slang.” The film opens nationwide on August 26th.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Evil Dead’ Remake Even More Disturbing in HD
Submitted by BrianTT on July 26, 2013 - 5:21pmCHICAGO – I wish I loved Fede Alvarez’s “Evil Dead” remake. Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot to like here — mostly thanks to the committed performance from the talented Jane Levy and the director and producer’s refusal to cave to CGI, doing all their notable effects practically. There’s also a crap script, filled with bad dialogue performed by a weak supporting cast. When the movie focuses on the pure chaos that clearly inspires Alvarez and his team, it works. And it works even more in HD.
Film Review: ‘Evil Dead’ Gets the Blood But Misses the Pulse
Submitted by BrianTT on April 5, 2013 - 11:20amCHICAGO – When the trailer for Fede Alvarez’s remake of the Sam Raimi classic “Evil Dead” hit the net, horror fans giggled with glee. A gore fest with no CGI made in the spirit of the flick that made Bruce Campbell a star? Sign me up. With the weakened state of the genre overall (last year was a rough one for horror fans), we were kind of banking on this one.

Blu-ray Review: Teen Comedy ‘Fun Size’ Doesn’t Fit Anyone
Submitted by BrianTT on February 28, 2013 - 10:46amCHICAGO – “Fun Size” is such a weird, weird movie. Who was it made for? It bears the Nickelodeon label but also a PG-13 rating and enough suggestive humor that it could never air uncut on the network. Perhaps the clear fact that no one ever figured out its audience is why it never found one, grossing less than any Nick movie to date and opening in 10th place. You may be curious now that it’s on Blu-ray and DVD. Just rent one of the films this work so clearly mimics instead.
