Film Review: Street Fight of ‘End of Watch’ Adds in Deep Emotion
Submitted by PatrickMcD on September 21, 2012 - 7:36amCHICAGO – In the genre known as the cop movie, there are expectations. There will be street evil, informants, ride-alongs and camaraderie. What is surprising and welcome in “End of Watch” is how it takes all those elements and expands them with an emotional link between the cop partners, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña .

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Donnie Darko: 10th Anniversary Edition’ Feels Like Overkill
Submitted by BrianTT on August 2, 2011 - 11:12amCHICAGO – A little over two years ago, Fox released a two-disc director’s cut Blu-ray of “Donnie Darko” that had a somewhat-mediocre HD transfer but enough quality special features to make up for it. With hours of bonus material, it seemed like the definitive edition. Nothing is definitive with Fox and now we have a 10th Anniversary Edition of this cult classic with four discs in one set. If you already own it and don’t need the digital copy, then this is overkill. If not, it’s the NEW definitive edition of a beloved film. For now.
Blu-Ray Review: You Will Fall For Thrilling ‘Source Code’
Submitted by BrianTT on July 26, 2011 - 2:54pmCHICAGO – Critics often fall back on cliched phrases about rollercoaster rides or edge-of-your-seat entertainment and then you’re disappointed when you head to the theatre or rent their recommendation and nearly fall asleep. “Source Code” is one of the few honestly-satisfying thrill rides that deserves that title. It’s one of the most entertaining films of the year and it’s going to garner an even-larger following with a strong Blu-ray and DVD release this week from Summit Entertainment.
Film Review: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan Star in Thrilling Sci-Fi ‘Source Code’
Submitted by BrianTT on March 31, 2011 - 5:03pmCHICAGO – Duncan Jones announced his arrival on the sci-fi scene with such authority with the excellent “Moon” that genre fans were naturally concerned about a sophomore slump. Worry no more. “Source Code” may first feel like a more traditional thriller but it’s clearly cut from the same cloth as “Moon” in that it takes the impossible and makes it human, even spiritual.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Love and Other Drugs’ With Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway
Submitted by BrianTT on March 21, 2011 - 3:20pmCHICAGO – An unusual new theme in the American romantic comedy is the couple who starts with sex and ends with love a la “No Strings Attached” and the recent “Love and Other Drugs” with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, now on DVD and Blu-ray. Critic Patrick McDonald HATED the film, putting it on his worst of the year, which I think may be a little harsh, but it’s a definite disappointment given the talent involved. Those of you looking for a romantic comedy can do better and so can the stars of this failed one.
