TV Review: ‘Key & Peele’ Successfully Brings Back Sketch Comedy

CHICAGO – Two of the more talented expatriates of the sadly-canceled “MadTV” have returned to the small screen with another sketch comedy series in the surprisingly funny and consistent “Key & Peele,” a show that could easily be the biggest breakthrough sketch comedy series since “Chappelle’s Show” debuted nine years ago.

TV News: Comedy Central Renews ‘South Park’ Through 2016

South Park

CHICAGO- The longest running animated show in cable history is going to set the record even further. Comedy Central announced today that the long-running comedy series “South Park,” which is currently on its 15th season, will have new episodes coming to fans through 2016 and a milestone 20th season.

Blu-Ray Review: Hilarious ‘South Park: The Complete Fourteenth Season’

South Park 14

CHICAGO – If you haven’t kept up with Eric, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny, fear not TV fans — “South Park” can still be DAMN funny. I’ll admit that I don’t keep up consistently during the regular season and so sometimes wonder if the quality has dipped. With the 15th season having premiered this week on Comedy Central, the 14th was just released on Blu-ray and DVD and it’s pretty great, especially in HD.

TV Review: Comedy Central’s ‘Workaholics’ Will Give Viewers a Serious Hangover

CHICAGO – You know those slacker frat boys who barely make it to class in the morning and aren’t just hungover but still drunk when the lecture starts? Do you think they just turn that off when they enter the work world?

Interviews: Topher Grace, Demetri Martin on ‘Take Me Home Tonight’

CHICAGO – Reliving the 1980s is what Topher Grace, ironically known for “That ‘70s Show,” set out to do with the story line for his new film, “Take Me Home Tonight.” Comedian Demetri Martin has a supporting role in that film.

TV Review: ‘Futurama’ Returns From Black Hole of Cancellation

Futurama

CHICAGO – Fry, Leela, Bender, and the rest of the gang of “Futurama” take a major step forward in their return from the other side of the TV schedule with the first brand new hour of television debuting tonight on Comedy Central. Fans are understandably nervous that something may have been lost during the show’s time off. Fear not space travellers.

TV Review: ‘Important Things With Demetri Martin,’ ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’

Sarah Silverman and Demetri Martin

CHICAGO – Demetri Martin and Sarah Silverman are now back-to-back on Thursday nights on Comedy Central with “Important Things With Demetri Martin” and “The Sarah Silverman Program” and the two incredibly talented comedians make for a perfect fit as both shows have similar strengths and weaknesses.

DVD Review: The Insignificance of ‘Important Things With Demetri Martin’

Important Things With Demetri Martin

CHICAGO – The inaugural sketch in the first season of Comedy Central’s “Important Things With Demetri Martin” takes place on a movie set where an actor knows his lines but can’t summon the proper emotions to make them believable. The character calls his unfaithful girlfriend some nasty names in what is supposed to be a fit of fury, but the words coming out of his mouth are said in a nonchalant, nearly cheery tone.

DVD Review: ‘Reno 911: The Complete Sixth Season’ an Above-Average Set

Reno 911

CHICAGO – The sixth season of Comedy Central’s cult hit “Reno 911!” actually bucks the trend and presents a funnier series of episodes than many of the seasons that preceded it. To see a show hit its creative stride this late into its legacy is incredibly rare, but with some hysterical guest stars and a few excellent cast changes, this is arguably the best “Reno” season yet.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘South Park’ Rocks in HD With 12th Season Blu-Ray Box Set

South Park
HollywoodChicago.com Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0

CHICAGO – I honestly never though Trey Parker and Matt Stone would still be pumping out “South Park” episodes in the era of HD Blu-Ray. It’s not that I’m not a fan. I’ve seen the brilliant movie, “South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut” a dozen or so times, but I thought that would be near the end of the phenomenon of Stan, Kyle, Kenny, & Cartman. Years later, it looks like it was just the beginning.
