CHICAGO – The Spring Season continues on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, as the Chicago Humanities Festival presents an amazing day of forums and speakers. Kicking off the day will be a woman of history … in a week where we need her … as Anita Hill speaks on the topic of “Believing Women,” the subject of her new book. CHICAGO – Season 14 of Chicago’s Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) … the 2022 Spring Season … wraps up this weekend with two films from Taiwan. “Increasing Echo” is a tense relationship drama about husband and wife trust (April 9th, click here).

CHICAGO – Happy Oscar Day! The 94th Academy Awards takes place on March 27th, and Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com conducted two major interviews connected to nominees. Actor David Dastmalchian for “Dune” (Best Picture) and Director Jessica Kingdon for “Ascension” (Best Documentary).

CHICAGO – The 2022 local film festival scene is picking up steam as the Spring Season 14 of Chicago’s Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) kicks off on March 13th at AMC Niles (Illinois). The South Korean film “Heaven: To the Land of Happiness” has its Midwest Premiere, beginning nearly a month of APUC through April 10th.

CHICAGO – There’s something to be said for a well done ass kicker in January that provides an entertaining distraction from the ice and snow outside. “The 355” is not it, offering a typical quick cutting action thriller that plods along in the most formulaic and least exciting manner possible. There’s nothing in this movie that hasn’t been done to death already.

CHICAGO – China sits across the sea as a country of sprawling expansion … economically, socially and governmentally. There is a new documentary that tries to understand all this proliferation and at the same time is a work of film art. “Ascension” is created and directed by Jessica Kingdon.
