Film Review: ‘Blended’ is Lazy, Laugh-Free Catastrophe
Submitted by PatrickMcD on May 25, 2014 - 8:18amCHICAGO – Two things save “Blended” from getting a zero star review. Number one is the still palpable chemistry between Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. Number two is the occasional chuckle courtesy of Wendi McClendon-Covey as Barrymore’s business partner. Otherwise this is a barren laugh-free safari through Africa that doesn’t even have the benefit of Al Pacino trampling on his prestigious career for our amusement.
Film Review: Adam Sandler Exploits the Family, More in ‘Blended’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on May 23, 2014 - 9:05amCHICAGO – Trying to understand the psychology and philosophy of manchild Adam Sandler, when it comes to his “middle-age” movies, will perplex film scholars and therapists for generations to come. His latest excuse for a “family comedy” is the insipid and exploitative “Blended.”

Film Review: ‘Grown Ups 2’ is the Worst Comedy Since 2010’s Loathed ‘Grown Ups’
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on July 11, 2013 - 8:31pmCHICAGO – There’s a time and a place where overacting is acceptable – musicals, children’s plays, Broadway – but there’s nothing worse than using it all the time in every wrong place.

Blu-ray Review: ‘That’s My Boy’ is More Mediocre Than Disastrous
Submitted by BrianTT on November 2, 2012 - 2:58pmCHICAGO – Perhaps it’s that I had heard SO many negative things about Adam Sandler’s comedy bomb “That’s My Boy” that by the time I finally got around to watching the Blu-ray I didn’t find it to be that awful. It’s certainly better than his trifecta of crap in 2012 - “Just Go With It,” “Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star” (which Sandler produced), and “Jack and Jill.” Although lower standards doesn’t forgive the fact that this flick has definite problems. Just not as many as you may have heard.
Film Review: ‘Hotel Transylvania’ Proves Hyper Isn’t Always Funny
Submitted by BrianTT on September 19, 2012 - 4:04pmCHICAGO – It was probably just a matter of time. With the current vampire craze dominating pop culture in flicks like “The Twilight Saga” and shows like “True Blood,” it was inevitable that creatures of the night be turned into family entertainment. Even “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein” was recently released on Blu-ray and Universal is about to unleash a whole set of HD monster movie classics. Monsters are hip. “Hotel Transylvania” does its best to put a nail in that coffin.
