Film News: 'Period Drama' is Top Film at 2022 ‘Best of the Midwest’

CHICAGO – The “Best of the Midwest,” the Awards Ceremony of Chicago’s Midwest Film Festival, were presented on November 3rd, 2022, at CineCity Studios in Chicago. The Grand Prize film was the short “Period Drama,” a clever twist on a woman’s coming of age. Emma Thatcher was a two-trophy BMA recipient, garnering Best Actress and Best Director for her debut feature “Provo.”

The event included awards for ten categories, honoring the best of the 2022 Midwest Film Festival season … there are expected “Best” (Actor, Actress, Director, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Design, Production Design and Grand Prize for Film), but there is also an Emerging Filmmaker Award and Best Use of a Prop. The ceremony took place at Chicago’s own “westside Hollywood” at the CineCity Studio space at 14th Street and Western Avenue.

The Midwest Film Festival has been a staple in Chicago’s film community for 15 years. At the beginning of 2020, it reinvented the concept with a a new outlook, facilitated by Executive Director Erica Duffy. After holding it together throughout the Covid years, it re-emerged in person in 2022 to be one of the most influential and provocative film festivals in the city.
