‘A League of Their Own’ Prime Video series premieres in Rockford.

ROCKFORD, ILL. – It’s time for the classic film “A League of Their Own” to go back to their roots … Rockford, Illinois, home of the old timey woman’s baseball team the Rockford Peaches. To celebrate the NEW Prime Video series adaptation of “League,” and the 30th anniversary of the film, Prime Video will be premiering the series in a special Rockford screening on July 2nd, 2022. The new “A League of Their Own” series evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball, both in and outside of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. The show follows Carson (Abbi Jacobson) and Max (Chanté Adams) and a new ensemble of sharp and hilarious characters as they carve their paths toward the field, along the way finding their teams and themselves.

A pre-screening street fair in Rockford will take place before the July 2nd screening (6-7:30p, screening at 8p), which includes complimentary ballpark snacks, interactive games like “Throw Like a Girl” pitching, 1940s music/cars, a special grass carpet photo opportunity and much more.

In 2015, photographer Joe Arce captured a “reunion” of the Rockford Peaches from the film, including director Penny Marshall and stars Lori Petty and Megan Cavanaugh, which is reprinted below … with additions from the series, premiering on August 12th, 2022, streaming on Prime Video.
