CHICAGO – Ethereal Canadian writer/director Jude Klassen is back with her second film – after “Love in the Sixth” – a combination of relationship angst and music passion, “Stupid For You.” The film has been launched into the fest circuit, and premiered at Montreal’s Image+ Nation Film Festival in November 2021.

“Stupid for You” is a musical with a deeply layered emotional resonance. Mikhael Klassen-Kay is Kat, who makes music with their best friend Stevie (Mia Rodne). When Kat’s greatest crush Eden (Caylin Turner) has a desire for a 1990s punk rock band, Polyamorous Diatribe, to re-form and play at a big high school dance, Kat has an advantage because their mother Dani (Jude Klassen, also featured) was the lead singer. As Kat negotiates their first gay/fluid love relationship, Dani is also putting her toe into the romantic waters again with a man named Magnus (Matt Clark).

Jude Klassen lives in Toronto, and is a musician, composer, actor and writer/director. Her 2015 debut feature film, “Love in the Sixth” was a punk indie favorite in Canada and the U.S.(making its “lower 48” premiere at Chicago’s CIMMFest). Her co-star in both films was her son Mikhael, who transitioned from identifying as she/her to he/him during the course of production. In “Stupid For You,” the character Kat identifies as she/her but also as someone finding their true nature, which was mirroring Mikhael’s own experience, and is the true DNA of the film. “Stupid for You” was partially supported by Telefilm Canada.
