Via Zoom: David Dastmalchian Talks ‘Dune,’ as Piter De Vries

CHICAGO – The film “Dune,” an adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert sci-fi novel, is just coming off its opening weekend. One of the principle roles, Piter De Vries from the House Harkonnen, is portrayed by David Dastmalchian. DD is having a stellar 2021, coming off his triumph as Polka-Dot Man in “The Suicide Squad.” He talked to HollywoodChicago.com via Zoom.

The characters of David Dastmalchian exist in many universes, including that of the Marvel Studios and the DC Universe. He achieved blockbuster notoriety as the Russian Kurt, part of the “Antourage” in the Marvel Universe “Ant-Man” films, and has appeared in the DC series on the CW, “The Flash,” as the villain Abra-Kadabra. His participation in the “Dune” film was a lifelong dream, as is indicated in the interview below.

Dastmalchian also had a two film independent partnership with director Collin Schiffli … the award winning “Animals” (2014) and “All Creatures Here Below” (2018). On TV, he has a recurring role on the rebooted “Macgyver” as Murdoc, and recently was in the Hulu series “Reprisal.” His role as Polka-Dot Man was directed by James Gunn, and in “Dune” he was directed by Denis Villeneuve.
