APPEARANCES OF THE DAY: 10:30pm: “Shorts 3: Unexpected Terrors (After Dark)” … Spooky shorts for Pre-Halloween. Special Guests (the Filmmakers) Scheduled to Attend.
FILM OF THE DAY: “A Cop Movie” – In this highly unusual profile of a male and female police officer in Mexico City, who become a couple, “A Cop Movie” blurs the line between straight documentary, the re-creation of events and fiction. Teresa and Montoya are portrayed by actors for most of the film, going through daily lives and expressing the difficulties of being cops in Mexico City, when suddenly the film shifts to the preparation the actors went through to channel their characters, and how strange the perception of reality becomes. The film somewhat satirizes the documentary form (for example, the titles could have come from any cop TV show) and the couple itself, but it is also highly effective as a work in generating empathy for one of the most difficult jobs in the world. An absorbing and highly worthwhile act of cinema. (click A COP MOVIE for watch options).
