Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Anthony, an artist living in a loft that exists on the old land of Cabrini-Green – an infamous Chicago housing project and where Candyman was born – now torn down and completely gentrified. He becomes obsessed with the legend, which is about conjuring the hooked-armed killer by saying his name five times in a mirror. As Anthony gets in deeper, secrets from his life start to intertwine with the Candyman, and the horror that had laid dormant is now revived.

“Candyman” is in theaters on August 27th. Featuring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Paris, Nathan-Stewart Barrett, Vanessa Williams and Tony Todd. Screenplay by Nia DaCosta, Win Rosenfeld and Jordon Peele. Directed by Nia DaCosta. Rated “R”
