Now you may say, if you are a Marvel Cinematic Universe geek, didn’t Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson) die in “Avengers Endgame.” You would be right … but this film takes place after the events of “Captain America Civil War.” Despite that bit of confusion, the film takes a deep dive into the origins of the superhero, including her parents (David Harbour and Rachel Weisz) and sister Yelana (Florence Pugh). It is revealed that Natasha’s genetic superiority was exploited in her youth, and her disgust regarding that programming is the challenge she must face, as well as a reunion with her sister and parents.

“Black Widow” opens in theaters and streams on Disney+ Premiere Access on July 9th. Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and Ray Winstone. Screenplay by Eric Pearson. Directed by Cate Shortland. Rated “PG-13”
