CHICAGO – Within the successful Season 12 for the Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) series of Chicago – the Closing Night film is Hong Kong’s “Ready O/r Knot” at the Davis Theater (relocated from the Lincoln Yards Drive-In) on May 7th, 2021 (rescheduled from May 1st/2nd) – were the usual variety of adventurous Asian films. But it was also this same season that the Academy Awards recognized Yuh-Jung Youn (Best Supporting Actress, “Minari”) and director Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”). This dark comedy/romance by first time director Anselm Chan finds the couple Guy and Heidi at a crossroads in their relationship. After five years, they are still very much in love, but the idea of getting married continues to be avoided. Heidi is ready to settle down, and Guy considers marriage as the beginning of the end of love. A battle of the sexes ensues as Heidi plans to pick up men on a wild night with her girlfriends, while Guy and his friends have plans of their own. Who or what will prevail is the key to whether this relationship will survive.
