CHICAGO – What is “Inner Worlds”? Imagine exploring the workings of a piano, the strings inside, the body that keeps those strings in place, and the other elements that make up the guts of the instrument. Then imagine creating music not from the keys, but from those innards, and performing a whole concert. That is what Access Contemporary Music (ACM) is presenting on Monday, December 16th, 2019, at the Davis Theatre in Chicago, and one of the performers – with Amy Wurtz – is a musician who is usually a concert level pianist, Marianne Parker. Marianne Parker is an accomplished pianist, described by Chicago Classical Review as “a cut above … her sympathetic fingers offers a well-sculpted phrases and impassioned pealing.” As an orchestral pianist, she has been under the baton of such maestros as Riccardo Muti, Michael Tilson Thomas, Carlos Miguel Prieto and Michael Christy. As a chamber musician, Marianne co-founded (with Laurel Black) the marimba and piano ensemble, L+M Duo. The new music pair performed “Illuminating Wrigley,” in celebration of Chicago’s Wrigley Building’s centennial anniversary. Earlier this year, she released her debut album, “Pages InTimes,” and is currently working on programming for New Music Chicago, which she expands upon in the Podtalk below.
