The night before (October 9th) the Kenneth Tsang honors, APUC presented “Deception of the Novelist” during their Hong Kong week. The taut and sensual thriller features Justin Cheung, Jeana Ho and Linah Matsuoka in a love triangle that will change all of their lives. Director Christopher Sun and actor/producer Justin Cheung are longtime friends and a team, collaborating on their third film together.

The “novelist” is Tsui (Justin Cheung) a renowned best-selling author, producing uplifting and romantic stories in the mode of “Chicken Soup for the Soul.” The public image of Tsui is a kindhearted family man who loves his wife (Jeana Ho) deeply. This changes when a beautiful and trendy woman named Elaine (Linah Matsuoka) moves to an upstairs apartment in his building, and her seductive powers are about to challenge the dull domestic life of Tsui.

In a Podtalk with Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, director Christopher Sun and lead actor Justin Cheung talk about “The Deception of the Novelist.”

Season Ten of Chicago’s Asian Pop-Up Cinema will begin in the early New Year of 2020. For a complete overview on APUC, click here.
