CHICAGO – Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 12th at 7pm as Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com participates in “Cinema Slapdown,” presented by the Film & Video Department at Columbia College in Chicago. Screening at the event is the film “Melancholia,” directed by Lars von Trier, followed by a “debate” between McDonald and Penelope Steiner of Peneflix.com. The exchange will be “refereed” by Film & Video Associate Professor and “Talk Cinema” host Ron Falzone.

“Melancholia” is a compelling, moody piece of cinematic art that was the top pick on Patrick McDonald’s Top Ten Films of 2011 list. McDonald will be taking on the “pro” side of the film, and Penelope Steiner will take the “con” side. The “Cinema Slapdown” is a monthly event at Columbia College, pairing film critics, students and other experts to face-off on current and classic films.

“Cinema Slapdown” is a free event, and will take play on April 12th at 7pm at the Columbia College Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash, 8th Floor. The film “Melancholia” will screen, followed by a debate featuring Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com and Penelope Steiner of Peneflix.com, hosted by Associate Professor Ron Falzone. Cinema Slapdown

I’m glad that Cinema Slapdown is still going strong. Always enjoyed the movies and the debates after. Great memories of “Showgirls”, “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Scarface”. Too bad I can’t attend.
