CHICAGO – The morning after the Golden Globes came with big news in the world of film editing. The American Cinema Editors, the guild group for editors in American cinema, announced the nominees for the 62nd Annual ACE Eddie Awards.

Much like the nominees from the Writer’s Guild, Producer’s Guild, and Director’s Guild, the nominees that come from the American Cinema Editors tend to be a good bet for nominees at the Academy Awards. While this is a little more difficult to predict because the ACE Awards have five nominees from two categories (Comedy/Musical and Drama), almost all the Drama nominees picked at the ACE awards are also nominated for the Oscar that year.

So who are the nominees this year? For the Drama category, the films nominated for an ACE award are as follows: “The Descendants,” “Hugo,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Moneyball,” and “War Horse.” In the Comedy/Musical category, the nominees are: “The Artist,” “Bridesmaids,” “Midnight in Paris,” “My Week with Marilyn,” and “Young Adult.”

With these nominations, only four films have been found on the nominee list for the WGAs, PGAs, DGAs, and ACE Awards: “The Descendants,” “Hugo,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” and “Midnight in Paris;” however, it must be noted that “The Artist” was nominated for all but the WGAs, but it was ineligible to be nominated for those awards. We will find these five films on the Academy Awards list of nominees? We will have to wait until early Tuesday morning next week to know for sure. staff writer Tim Martens
