Here is the synopsis for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”:

Adapted from the acclaimed bestseller by Jonathan Safran Foer, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” is a story that unfolds from inside the young mind of Oskar Schell. He’s an inventive, 11-year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in his deceased father’s belongings sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open.

A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls “The Worst Day,” he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears.

As Oskar crosses the five New York boroughs in quest of the missing lock – encountering an eclectic assortment of people who are survivors in their own way – he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses, the mother who seems so far away from him and the whole noisy, dangerous and discombobulating world around him.

Sept 11 story

Heard about first plane, turned tv on; saw second one hit. Frantically tried to reach friend who worked near World Financial Center. Rest of day was numbing. Downtown of my midwest city was evacuated. Skies went silent.

College

I remember being at school and going to class that morning. Suddenly we were sent home and about 10 of us sat in my dorm room watching. It brought all of us together. I didn’t know half the people in my room.

My story

My story

It was my first day of work in 2001, I went into the office, went through my orientation and went upstairs. My supervisor’s office was decorated for his birthday. Everyone surprised him and welcomed him to the office when he arrived. Then the first plane hit the tower.

Time stopped. We sat glued to the television until the towers went down. We were in an office on the 25th floor. The entire office was paralyzed. Corporate called and told everyone to evacuate the building immediately.

To this day, I can’t imagine what my supervisor goes through on his birthday every year, but is pales in comparison to what actually went down in NY that day. Unimaginable. Unbelievable. Yet it really happened and I hope this movie reminds people of the sacrifice that occurred on that day and sacrifices that have been made everyday since.

Thank you for reading.

9/11 Story

My fourth grade teacher was always really funny, like he was constantly joking and smiling and making us laugh. So when the teachers had a brief meeting and he came back looking very serious, we knew something was up. He explained the attacks, I think both the towers had fallen at this point. At first I was confused what all the fuss was about. I had never heard of the World Trade Center before, so why did it matter if it wasn’t there anymore? It wasn’t until I got home and saw the news footage that I started to understand that this was indeed a very serious situation. It’s strange to think that I was the same age as Oskar was when the attacks happened, he is clearly much more precocious than I was. I read the book and I’ve been looking forward to the movie big-time. Fingers crossed!

What’s your Sept. 11, 2001 story?

While at work I received a phone call from my best friend say that a plane had run into one of the world trade towers and while we were on the phone the second plane hit and we both said, we’re under attack and we have to go get our kids from school!

I’d just found out I was

I’d just found out I was pregnantand in a state of shock, I raced home from planned parenthood to let him know. When i walked in he was glued to the t.v. I called his name at least 10 times but he never even flinched. Then he suddenly turned around and said “America is under attack!!” We watched in utter silence as the second plane hit. Little did he know that I had news of a new life. Little did any of us know that life as we knew it was over.

Extremely loud and incredibly close

I was watching the planes hit live on tv while watching the Today show. It was a sight I will never forget. I can’t say I stopped watching TV for days afterwards.
