Here is the synopsis for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”:

Adapted from the acclaimed bestseller by Jonathan Safran Foer, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” is a story that unfolds from inside the young mind of Oskar Schell. He’s an inventive, 11-year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in his deceased father’s belongings sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open.

A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls “The Worst Day,” he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears.

As Oskar crosses the five New York boroughs in quest of the missing lock – encountering an eclectic assortment of people who are survivors in their own way – he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses, the mother who seems so far away from him and the whole noisy, dangerous and discombobulating world around him.

9/11 Story

Went to work - arrived to find first plane had already hit. We were glued to the news. Our bldg was evacuated early by the owner and my team left for the hotel lounge across the street.

We spent the afternoon watching in horror, especially, as I was raised in New York (Queens). Just several months ago, my bf and I had sat in front of the Twin Towers prior to his meeting some friends working in the bldg.

I did not personally lose anyone but my bf and others knew of people in the Towers and on the aircraft.

I just remember feeling shell shocked for a long time.

My dad called my mom while

My dad called my mom while she was getting all of us up and ready and told her what was happening. We turned on the TV and couldn’t believe it. We went to the bus and listened in silence to the radio. Then my friend said “I can’t believe today is my birthday…” We didn’t know what to do. It was so surreal.

I was eating breakfast watching the morning news broadcast about the “accidental” collision of the plane into one of the towers, when the second plane hit. Immediately, I realized this wasn’t accidental. Oddly, while over 1000 miles away, I was so sickened that I didn’t finish my breakfast.

I was at work and my wife

I was at work and my wife called and said “They just ran a plane into the one of the Twin Towers and I was shocked and told everyone at work and said lets get to the TV. I never got a chance and she started screaming that they had just hit the other tower and was screaming loadly. My heart just dropped then.

I was headed to my last scheduled appointment with a therapist before ending therapy at that time. The therapist asked, “how do you feel about life now that this is all happening?” I decided it was clear to me that other people have much bigger problems than I do. I also remember having to be careful how much of the coverage our 5 year old was seeing. Everyone was affected, but he was too young to fully understand.
