Here is the synopsis for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”:

Adapted from the acclaimed bestseller by Jonathan Safran Foer, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” is a story that unfolds from inside the young mind of Oskar Schell. He’s an inventive, 11-year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in his deceased father’s belongings sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open.

A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls “The Worst Day,” he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears.

As Oskar crosses the five New York boroughs in quest of the missing lock – encountering an eclectic assortment of people who are survivors in their own way – he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses, the mother who seems so far away from him and the whole noisy, dangerous and discombobulating world around him.

9/11/01

I was getting ready for school when my mom came into my room. She looked shaken by something. I’d never seen her like this before. She said I should come to the family room and see what has happened. Once I entered the room, I saw on the TV smoke coming from the World Trade Center. I honestly could not believe what I was seeing. When I went to school, my fifth grade class watched the rest of the coverage that day. Once I got home, the rest of my family was watching the footage over and over again. It was all anyone was talking about that day. One of the most unforgettable days of my lifetime.

911

I don’t remember much of that particular day, just the influence it had for my family. My mother was a red cross nurse who was sent during the first week from WA. I didn’t see her for 3 months and remember missing her and being scared for her everyday.

Disbelief

Boss came in… said he’d heard on the radio that a plane had crashed into a building in NYC. We thought it had to be a terrible accident, never imagining anyone would deliberately fly an airplane into a building. Took all day to track down personal friends and business clients in NYC to make sure they were okay.

My September 11, 2001 Story

I returned a day earlier from a friends wedding that weekend in Washington, DC on September 10, 2001 instead of September 11, 2001.

On the way to the airport, my cousin and I passed the pentagon and she noted how secure it was and I told her that anything built my humans/man was not ultra secure.

On Tuesday morning, my Mom called to tell me about the plane that had flown into the World Trade Center and asked me if I was still in Washington, DC. I turned on the television and told her that that was no accident.

As the events began to unfold, we executed our family emergency plan. I told my sister that worked in Sears Tower to leave the building no matter what she was told. Then I headed to the day care to get my 6 month old niece.

Then it was finally announced that downtown Chicago was being evacuated.

Thank goodness my family in Chicago was in tact.

It took us several days though to confirm the whereabouts of our relatives in New York city and Washington, DC. Everyone was safe.

Thank God!

My heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones in 911.

09/11 story

I remember being at work on the 18th floor downtown and someone was talking about the news on the radio it all seemed like it was from a movie. I quickly called home and asked my parents to go get my kids from school. The office was soon evacuated and it took over 2 hours to get home when it normally would take me 30 minutes. I got home and huged my kids, we watched the tv in awe and disbelife.
