Here is the synopsis for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”:
Adapted from the acclaimed bestseller by Jonathan Safran Foer, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” is a story that unfolds from inside the young mind of Oskar Schell. He’s an inventive, 11-year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in his deceased father’s belongings sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open.
A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls “The Worst Day,” he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears.
As Oskar crosses the five New York boroughs in quest of the missing lock – encountering an eclectic assortment of people who are survivors in their own way – he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses, the mother who seems so far away from him and the whole noisy, dangerous and discombobulating world around him.

my story
I was in the shower getting ready for class and my roommate came out and got me….we watched the TV in horror and just went outside and sat in front of the house….my proffessor lived across the street and she walked over to see if we were ok and to cancel class. I then left to study abroad in Italy in January. Believe me that was an experience…threats on students…wierd people taunting us in airports…but overall not as bad as my family was worried about.
I was in college, living in
I was in college, living in the dorm. My TV was my alarm clock, so I saw it when I woke up but I had to keep the volume down because my roommate was sleeping. We talked about it when I went to my 9 a.m. Spanish class, and when I came back my roommate still didn’t know so I told her about it.
I was a sophomore in high
I was a sophomore in high school sitting in first period art class. They came over the loud speaker and made an announcement that a plane crashed into one of the towers. The rest of the day we sat in each class watching the tv or talking with friends. I was really concerned for my older brother who was in college in new York at the time. I can’t believe it has been ten years.

Just sleeping in.
I was in Japan at the very
I was in Japan at the very beginning of my 2 year stay there. A Japanese person came knocking on my door and explained to me in less than 5 words, “America…skyscrapers…boom…airplane…tv.” I thought it was a movie, but soon realized that it wasn’t.
September 11
I was at work when the planes hit the towers and I watched in horror. Then because I work next to the Aon building which is considered a high risk target, our building was evacuated and I walked home to an eerily silent loop and was glued to the television the rest of the day.

I was work in downtown Chicago. A friend called me in shock to tell me what was going on. Listened to the radio all day after that. I just wanted to be home at the time with my 9 year old daughter.

After ssing it happen in real time we all were more aware of our frailty and powerlessness.
9/11
I was in L.A. for my uncle’s funeral and was scheduled to fly home to Chicago on 9/11. I was stranded there for a week, but fortunately I was with most of my family.
