Here is the synopsis for “Joyful Noise”:

Oscar nominees Queen Latifah (“Chicago,” “Hairspray”) and Dolly Parton (“Transamerica,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Nine to Five”) star in “Joyful Noise”: a funny and inspirational story of music, hope, love and renewal.

The small town of Pacashau, Ga. has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Sacred Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart.

Their newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), stubbornly wants to stick with their tried-and-true traditional style while the fiery G.G. Sparrow (Parton) thinks tried and true translates to tired and old. Shaking things up even more is the arrival of G.G.’s rebellious grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan). Randy has an ear for music, but he also has an eye for Vi Rose’s beautiful and talented daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer).

The sparks between the two teenagers are causing even more heat between G.G. and Vi Rose. If these two strong-willed women can overcome their differences and find a common voice, they and their choir may make the most joyful noise of all.

Favorite song memory

Wow. It’s so easy to have a good memory with a song. The memory that comes to mind first is from my senior year of high school. I was in choir and I was never wonderful, but that year, I had improved a lot and people noticed it too. One day, specifically, a girl said “You’ve been doing really good lately. Nice job.” It made my year.

Song Memories

So many songs linked to to so many memories. Then there are the phrases people use or just something someone says in the course of a day that triggers a song in my head. We are surrounded by music everywhere we go - on the airplane before take off, in restaurants, stores, when on hold on the phone….

Kirk Franklin - "It's Over Now"

It’s a memory that I’ll never forget. When my 23 year old cousin died, this song played after the funeral. I realized that he was now with God.

Best Song Memory

One of my favorite songs in the world is “Come Close.” My ex, who is not a singer and not a dancer decided to serenade me in public. It was the sweetest thing he had ever done.

Best memory tied to a song

The best memory I have that’s tied to a song is “Brighter Day” by Kirk Franklin. That song reminded me that in spite of my bad break-up with a guy that I really loved and cared about…I would have brighter and better days ahead. The lyrics to that song really uplifted my soul
