Blu-Ray News: Disney to Release ‘Lady and the Tramp,’ ‘Cinderella’ in Diamond Editions
CHICAGO – Disney has opened up its vault, once again, to bring two of its most classic films back to fans; this time in Blu-Ray Diamond Editions. “Lady and the Tramp” and “Cinderella” will both be released in 2012 for fans to enjoy re-mastered, high quality versions of the classic films.
“Lady and the Tramp” and “Cinderella” will be the fifth and sixth films in the Blu-Ray Diamond Edition format. Disney has already successfully released “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Bambi,” and “The Lion King.” The press release from Disney says the Blu-Ray Diamond Edition of these classic films “boast the highest level of picture and sound; feature groundbreaking, state-of-the-art immersive bonus content; and include unprecedented levels of interactivity, personalization and customization, made possible because of Blu-ray technology.”
“Lady and the Tramp” will be released in its new, high quality format on February 7, 2012 to Disney fans everywhere, while “Cinderella” will release in the fall of 2012, on a date that has not been picked yet. For some, the release may come off as just another way for Disney to make money off their older films (see the re-release of Disney and Pixar classic to theaters in 3D as another example), but for other fans who flock to Disneyland every year, still own a Simba stuffed animal, and reenact the spaghetti kiss between Lady and Tramp, the re-release is another way to enjoy some of their favorite Disney classics.
