CHICAGO- It has been almost three years since the release of the last 007 film, “Quantum of Solace,” and it finally looks like things will officially get under way for the twenty-third Bond film. In a return to an area not foreign to James Bond, the opening sequences of the film have apparently been slotted to take place in Istanbul.

According to MI6-HQ, “the home of James Bond 007,” the Turkish province will also be the location of several other shootings for “Bond 23.” Turkish officials confirmed the news, stating their excitement of having Bond back on their soil:

The opening scenes are planned to be filmed in Istanbul, but some other places will also be used outside Istanbul for the film,” Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Günay said. “Such is the appeal of the series that many of the locations where Bond films have been filmed in the past have continued to attract Bond fans to visit many years down the line. The fact that the opening scene of the film will be made in Turkey will contribute to Turkish tourism.”

Bond has made his way through parts of Istanbul before. Much of the film “From Russia with Love” took place in the heart of Istanbul, and 007 also was featured in the metropolis in 1999’s “The World is Not Enough.” The locations for the next Bond film are said to include the historic Sultanahmet Square neighborhood in the 10-15 minute opening sequence.

Daniel Craig is once again slated to play the famous agent, his third portrayal of the character, and Ralph Fiennes is set to be one of the villains. Sam Mendes (“American Beauty” “Revolutionary Road”) will be behind the lens as the director of the film. The film, which is not yet titled, plans to kick off shooting in November.
