TV News: ‘New Girl,’ ‘Unforgettable’ Hold Strong Second Week Ratings
CHICAGO – With new shows, it’s always about week two. How far do you drop from the highly-promoted week one numbers when there aren’t as many ads or reviews to remind viewers you’re on the air? CBS’s “Unforgettable” and FOX’s “New Girl” held strong from their week one numbers while “Glee” continued to slide from year to year.

CBS still owns Tuesday nights with ridiculous numbers for “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (12.4 household rating & 10.4 household rating, respectively). The new entry in this line-up, “Unforgettable” dipped only 6% from its first week, pulling a great 9.3 rating, holding 84% of its lead-in. These are very strong for non-franchise, new show numbers.
“New Girl” dropped more on FOX, falling 15% from its first week, but a 6.3 rating for the struggling network is more than enough to call this show a hit. In fact, “New Girl” was up 31% from last year’s show in this timeslot (“Raising Hope”) and held 100% of the ratings for “Glee,” a show which has seriously eroded since season two, down 32% from its ratings a year ago. “New Girl” having the same ratings in its second episode as “Glee” does in its third season makes the former a notable hit with room to grow and the latter a show for which fans should start to be concerned. In sad news, “Raising Hope” lost 33% of the “New Girl” audience and fell to a 4.2 rating. I like that you’re watching “New Girl” but PLEASE start watching “Raising Hope.” It’s just as good.
In other news on the evening, “Body of Proof” ratained 62% of its “Dancing With the Stars” lead-in and pulled a 6.8 rating. Those numbers are good enough for now but it better not continue to slide. “Detroit 1-8-7” pulled a 6.0 in this timeslot a year ago and this is not that far off that now-cancelled show.
At NBC, demographic numbers, which aren’t available this early, usually tell the tale. In overall numbers, “The Biggest Loser” (3.9) and “Parenthood” (3.9) finished a distant fourth place.
At CW, “Ringer” appears to have settled in with a 1.7 rating, the exact same as last week. Not a great number but an improvement on both its lead-in (“90210” with a miserable 1.4) and “Life Unexpected” (1.1) a year ago make it something of a winner.
