CHICAGO – News last week of a separation between Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith may have been false, but the news that Jada’s current project “Hawthorne” and TNT are calling it quits is definitely true. “Hawthorne” or “HawthoRNe” has officially been dropped from the TNT lineup after three seasons on the air.

Dropping the show after three seasons means fans of the show have seen all of Dr. Christina Hawthorne as the season three finale aired on August 16. The show joins a list of shows that TNT has dropped this year that includes the comedy/drama “Men of a Certain Age” that starred Ray Romano.

TNT has now dropped two shows with talented casts, but was sure to acknowledge this in a statement about the end of the hospital drama: “TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved,” the network said. “The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show’s talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with HawthoRNe nothing but the best.”

The dropping of “Hawthorne” as well as “Men of a Certain Age” may come as a surprise to many fans, but TNT who “knows drama” is full of other shows filling the drama quota. “Rizzoli & Isles” has been a success for the network for two seasons and returns October 17 for a third season. The new alien invasion series “Falling Skies” was a hit this summer as well.

Also, don’t forget that TNT is the network bringing a continuation series of the original 1970s-1980s “Dallas.” The new “Dallas” is scheduled for a summer 2012 premiere for the network.
