Here is the plot description for “A Better Life”:

From the director of “About a Boy” and the producers of “A Single Man” and “In Good Company” comes “A Better Life”: a touching, poignant, multi-generational story about a father’s love and the lengths a parent will go to build a better life for his child.

Carlos Galindo always dreamed of a better life for his wife and newborn son when he crossed the border into the U.S. But when his wife left him – wanting more than he could give – Carlos’ only goal became to make sure his son Luis was given the opportunities he never had.

After years of hard work and trying to set an example for his son, he still finds himself drifting apart from Luis. Luis is at an impressionable teen age where succumbing to peer pressure could lead him down a dangerous path. Seeing a way to control their own destiny, Carlos takes what little money he has and invests it all into his own gardening business. Luis believes that is their only chance to stay together and finally achieve the better life he always envisioned for his son.

However, after an unexpected turn of events when everything he’s worked for is suddenly taken away, it is Luis – despite years of growing apart – who teams up with Carlos to take it back. Together, father and son embark on a physical and spiritual journey where they discover something more important: that family is the most important part of the American dream. The film will be released in the U.S. via Summit Entertainment. The Chicago release date is July 8, 2011. “A Better Life” is rated “PG-13”.

Better Life

By focusing on the things that really matter. Love, respect, doing your best in school, spending time getting to know your own family, and really listening to the needs of the child.

What is the best way for a parent to give a child a better life?

The more unconditional love a child feels as he/she is growing up, the more self-esteem the child builds. The more a parent allows a child to participate in decisions, the smarter a child feels about making choices. The boundaries you have for your child are there for a reason…to teach. Keep them up at all times and your child will learn the lessons early in life. Whatever bothered you as a child…DO NOT DO THAT TO YOUR CHILD. Tell your child everyday that you are their parent, you will always be their parent no matter what, and you are very proud of them. LOTS OF HUGS MATTER TOO!

Following Through....

The best way for a parent to give a child a better life, is to take care of themselves; to set goals and to follow through with their choices and life plans. I think it helps a child to remain well rounded, but also determined and focused on personally having dreams, goals and aspirations.

A parent can give their child a better life by enforcing the importants of education in their life as soon as they at a age of understanding. I think starting at the age 1 with educational toys, books, posters, etc. would get a kid excited about school and learning in the future. My daugther, I Started with her at 1 and now she is 3 and is very bright and excited about starting school in August. She cry if she cant go to school. If thats not a good start, then I dont know what is.
