CHICAGO – Brian Tallerico, content director and TV critic for HollywoodChicago.com, will appear on Bill Moller’s program this Saturday on WGN Radio 720 AM in Chicago. The show plays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every weekend. It’s the time of year when the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences puts together its list of favorites for Emmy nominations. With ballots due this month, who do you think should be nominated?

Unlike most years, there are a lot of options out there. Are you a fan of basic cable hits like “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead,” “The Closer,” “Justified,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Southland” or “Men of a Certain Age”? Do you bow at the altar of pay cable and watch every episode of “Dexter,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Game of Thrones,” “Entourage” and “Shameless”? Are you more of a comedy fan and want to make a case for the stars of “Community,” “The Office,” “Raising Hope,” “Glee” or “Modern Family”? Or have we missed your favorite entirely?

Leave your picks for any Emmy category – Best Comedy Actor, Best Drama Actress, Best Mini-Series, etc. – in the comments section below. And listen to the WGN Radio show on June 4, 2011 for your chance to call in. If you can’t get through, use the comments section below to make your case. As our Emmy coverage continues this entire Summer, you can do your part by stumping for your favorite performers or series. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!

For your Emmy consideration...

Category: Best Actor in a Drama Series

Nominee: Vincent D’Onofrio in Law and Order: Criminal Intent

Rationale: I have long felt this man deserves an Emmy for his portrayal of brilliant, tortured NYPD Major Case detective Robert Goren. Now in its tenth season, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and D’Onofrio, in particular, has long been underrated and overlooked by the Academy. D’Onofrio consistently delivers powerful performances, suffusing his Goren character with strength, brilliance and humanity while managing to keep him vulnerable and real. While fans continue to hope that this season’s strong, solid ratings will convince the network to change its mind and renew the series, the spectre of this being the show’s last season makes it more urgent that D’Onofrio finally be recognized for his brilliant acting. Through him, Robert Goren has become very real and he is long overdue this honor.

I Agree!

Vincent D’Onofrio is consistently great in Law & Order:CI and deserves an Emmy!

Also, while I haven’t researched and/or confirmed it, I believed he was nominated for and may have won an Emmy for a special guest appearance in ‘Homicide: Life on the Street.’

Emmys for Community and The Office

Category: Best Supporting Actor

Community is deserving of so many accolades for its second season, but if there’s a standout it has always been Danny Pudi who has taken the nerd role to a whole other level. NBC needs to submit the twisty Tarantino episode not just for writing, but for the complete twist of Pudi’s portrayal of Abed. The transition he makes and subverts our expectations well before the script reveals what is up its sleeve is no less than masterful.

Category: Best Actor (Comedy)

Alec Baldwin has been the benefit of some great writing for his character on 30 Rock over the years and he’s great. But compare that to what Steve Carell has done with arguably even better writing on The Office in his farewell year. He’s been nominated five years in a row. It would be a crime to see him go down the Jason Alexander route and never win for one of the great comic characters on television.

I think 48 hrs, this show

I think 48 hrs, this show will be an interesting one, it shows people the real facts of how people are killed and the people whom kill. It also lets people know you can turn someone in and not b hurt, we need thiese type of catorgeries.

Fringe is a favorite show

I love Fringe! The theories are far fetched, but I have been buying the DVD sets each season, and the “behind the scenes” are very interesting. The writers have tried to take scientific studies and put their own “What IF?” to the storyline. The best part is the characters. Most have had to play dual roles as they are battling a parrallel Universe. My absolute favorite is John Noble who plays Walter Bishop, the most charismatic “mad scientist”ever. Some of the storylines he has been involved in concerning healing his relationship with his son have brought tears to my eyes, yet he brings such a great comedic relief at times.

I have to give Anna Torv kudos for her role as Olivia, Fringe Division detective. At one point in the story, Walter’s co-scientist William Bell (played by Leonard Nimoy) dies and Walter finds a way for his spirit to take over Olivia’s body (I digress, you’ll have to watch to find out why). So we have Anna Torv playing Olivia playing William Bell with Leonard Nimoy’s mannerisms, etc. She had him down pat right to the raised eyebrow. We thought her performance was priceless!

Parenthood

One of the best shows out there. Depicts families with issues that most people can relate to at one time or another. I am never ready for the show to be over each episode and look forward to the next week. I could not pick a favorite actor/character because the are all outstanding.

Hugh Laurie as best actor

I think Hugh Laurie deserves the award for best actor in a drama series. He does an outstanding job playing his part, while walking with a limp and speaking with a foreign accent. He has carried the show, which has been one of Fox’s strongest dramas, for seven seasons. Now, with Lisa Edelstein leaving the series, this next season might be the last for House. However, no matter who he has to work with in the cast, Hugh Laurie will shine. He is able to play a character who is hateful, funny and heartbroken all at the same time. I think he deserves recognition for everything he has brought to the role of Gregory House.
