Because life is so uncertain

Unexpected things happen everyday, so we never know when our lives could change (or end) completely, and what most people fear most is death.

Morbid Fascination

I believe we’re morbidly fascinated towards end-of-the-world films for the same reason that if someone were to see a tragic accident or something akin to that, they stop/pause/slow down to see it. Death as a whole fascinates us, for the reason that the afterlife is the “true” unknown. Perhaps another reason we enjoy this visceral media is due to the fact that we know as a race at some point or another there will be an apocalypse or some great tragedy that will end us all. We can also compare this morbid fascination to the torture porn movies as of late (Saw, Hostel, etc.) We cannot look away yet at the same time we realize its gruesome.

End of the world

We are fascinated by this type of movie because it peaks our curiosity and because end of the world may probably take place.

End of The World Films

The reason so many people find apocalyptic films so fascinating is because since birth the idea of “End of the World” has been planted in nearly everyone’s head. The media, religion, and science ensures to procrastinate the “End of the World” until the end has come, if it happens. With some many conspiracy theories being incorrect such as 2000, 2006 people don’t know in what to believe in anymore. Which is why they fulfill their expectations with films such as these. Aside from that it’s always good to look ahead incase this those occur.

Curiosity

We are fascinated by end of the world movies because of our curiosity about what the end of the world would look like and what would happen to human.

End of the World

Movie goers eat up this stuff because as if our lives weren’t hectic enough they want to imagine something a thousand times worse to make ourselves feel like it isn’t that bad, but then there are people who are fascinated by all the weird ways writers can kill off people in hollywood. (: I’m the last part.

Why are we morbidly fascinated by end-of-the-world films?

There has always been much talk on the world ending - religions, books, etc., which makes one stop and think “what if” the world really did or could end.
