The Uptown Theater in Chicago, one of the last remaining huge and glorious movie palaces that hasn’t been restored or torn down, got a new lease on life yesterday as it was sold at auction.

The Uptown was designed by the famous Balaban and Katz theater company and opened on August 15th, 1925. After years of films, stage shows and then rock concerts, it closed in a declining neighborhood in 1981.

Film companies, most notably Home Alone 2, used the interior and exterior over the years, but the restoration would be extensive and expensive.

Details are at Chicago Real Estate Daily
