“Shakespeare. I did this movie because of Shakespeare.”
- one of the actresses in the movie who made her debut in a “reality” film

Yeah, you did this movie because it was based on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” Like “10 Things I Hate About You” is based on “Taming of the Shrew.” Like any of these teen movies are based on any of Shakespeare’s works. Meaning “Let’s rip on the basic premise of a genius, put it in a high school setting, get some attractive teenagers to star, & tell people it’s Shakespeare. Cut & Print.”

I’m not going to totally rag on it, though. There were some very funny moments, mostly brought out by Amanda Bynes, David Cross (who was just given free reign, I’m loving to say), & Vinnie Jones. Otherwise, the cast was cookie-cutter “The Breakfast Club” stereotypes. Really … I never knew anyone in high school who was so one-dimensional. Some were close, but most had at least ONE other thing that was interesting & different about them.

But let’s face it … the movie is highly implausible. Amanda Bynes, as adorable as she is both on screen & in real life, doesn’t come anywhere close to resembling a guy. NO ONE would buy it.

The main guy, Channing Tatum, was alright in a goofy “I’m trying so hard to not just be the heartthrob hunky guy, but to be the heart-of-gold hunky guy.” He seemed sincere enough, given that he was supposed to pretend to believe little quirky Amanda had a penis.

The other guy - the “jerk jock” in this case (isn’t it always the case?) - was so lacking in substance that I’m not even going to mention him by name.

Besides, didn’t this movie already come out? Oh yeah. It was called, “Just One of the Guys.”
